HALLOWEEN PARTY

Hi Parents!

We will be having a Halloween Party on Thursday.

Students are allowed to wear their costumes- but no masks or weapons.

If you choose to send food, please make sure it is nut free and includes an ingredient card if it is a baked item.

We will be doing games after recess up to lunch, and after lunch we will be watching a spoooooky movie.

Dear Parents

-Halloween Fundraiser Dance Friday Oct. 25th (green notice sent home)
-New Scholastic Orders sent home (order for Oct. will be submitted today)
-Some students will be bringing home a "Sight Word" review booklet.  Please practice each night. -New words will be sent home after weekly assessments in Guided Reading, so each child might bring home new words on different days.

Our Learning:
We had a review on nouns and verbs today, and did some finish up work.  We got to go on Dance Mat Typing to practice our typing skills.
In math we practiced our skills in numeracy (recognizing numbers to 100, sequencing, comparing, patterning, subatizing, etc.).
In Science we did our task design for our Magnet Invention. Students are welcome bring materials from home, but we will be using the school's Maker Space to create our prototype.

Coming home is a string!  We did a collaborative team building math activity with another classroom- boy we worked hard to use our "Mojo" Growth Mindsets of patience, listening perseverance even when difficult.  We had to overcome 'rock brain' and 'glass man' - and boy! it wasn't easy.. but we did it, and we did a FABULOUS job.
Try to make a few shapes as a family!  Remember to keep your hands on the string!




Also coming home is our "fortune tellers' aka 'pac man' that we created as a strategy to overcome Glassman from Superflex.  Glassman gets UPSET and make a big deal out of small problems.

Dear Parents,
We had a ton of fun making slime today - for safety reasons we decided against making it magnetic as the slime is only attracted to earth magnets which are very powerful, but can be dangerous for young children. We will watch a video on Tuesday about magnetic slime.  
CAUTION: Avoid using the slime near fabrics of any kind (carpet, furniture, etc) as it is near impossible to get out!

Our Learning:
We were having so much fun doing short skits to demonstrate "Space Invader" personal bubble "Expected" and "not expected" & sketching in our Visual Journals that we ran out of time for blog!  I tried to squeeze in a bit of reading for our book "Wonder" but we will finish the chapter tomorrow. We just found out that Auggie has decided to meet the principal Mr. Tushman at his potential new school.  He's pretty nervous because he looks so different, he fears that kids will stare and be rude.

We did our Magnet Science test today, some of us will finish up tomorrow.  So far, I am seeing some pretty smart kiddos!  Im very impressed with the outstanding work.

Brrrrrr!  Looks like old man winter has struck again!   Thankfully the weather is suppose to improve tomorrow. We got a GREAT surprise today in gym- Mr. J let us know that we finished the race for Terry Fox and our school raised over $5,000 for Terry Fox!  WOW!!!!! Hawkwood is amazing!  Thank you so much :)

Hawkwood School will be having their semi-annual book fair November 19-22nd. Once again we accepting donations of children’s and adult’s books for our Fall Book Fair. Please consider donating popular titles for children such as:

Any books by Raina Telgemeier (graphic novels)

Dear Parents,
Our class read "You are a Social Detective! Explaining Social Thinking to Kids" by Michelle Garcia Winner and Pamela Crooke.
The Social Detective series features "Superflex" who with a team of friends, teaches us about how to be 'flexible'  and "expected"and overcome a team of 'unthinkable' who do things that are "unexpected".
Our first character was Rock Brain!
'
We watched a video from Sesame Street about the word "stubborn"- and discussed how Rock Brain is very stubborn. We then made our very own Rock Brain using play dough.
